Kashimada Nursery features two interconnected, windmill-like buildings that seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor spaces, including gardens, pathways, and nursery rooms. Using logs and beams arranged according to traditional Japanese tatami dimensions, the design subtly guides children's movements and defines spaces without rigid walls, enhancing their exploration and interaction. The architecture aims to evolve with its surroundings, honoring the site's context and history.
Jury's Evaluation
Kashimada Nursery takes a distinctive approach, breaking away from conventional preschool layouts. Its soft, open design encourages children to explore and engage through architecture, fostering a meaningful connection between educational philosophy and design. The project respects the historical context of the site while introducing fresh energy, creating a welcoming and vibrant space for childcare within the community.
