The building has a distorted U-shape to allow wind and light pass through the gaps between the tightly packed surrounding buildings. The design emphasizes creating a sense of living together, where residents can feel each other’s presence. Three strategies were implemented to make the courtyard into a space where people prefer to stay, even in low light conditions: reducing the number of corridors facing the courtyard, creating horizontal voids, and giving special texture to the courtyard wall.
Jury's Evaluation
Within a highly constrained urban site, the project still maintains openness, a sense of shared space, and a pleasant spatial experience. Although compact, it creates a surprisingly open feeling. The design is handled with precision and care, showing a clear intention to make the space both practical and refined despite its limitations.
