Punggol Green was a 1.2-hectare, 500m-long underutilised space beneath the MRT viaduct. Through eight years of close collaboration with government agencies and the local community, the project successfully transformed a disamenity into a vibrant social spine that caters to diverse needs while promoting ecological connectivity.
The project is a prototype for future city-making strategies where infrastructure can be reimagined to enrich urban life and foster inclusive, sustainable communities.
Jury's Evaluation
With precise and restrained design, the project transforms an under-bridge void into a lively green corridor that balances ecological restoration with everyday community needs. Its long-term, multi-stakeholder collaboration between government and residents offers an inspiring model for reimagining and regenerating underused urban spaces.
