EXALT is organized around a simple experiential condition: visitors descend toward a tomb placed below ground while their attention is continually directed upward. Through excavation, light, framed views and an upward-curving architectural form, the project transforms the experience of memorial architecture from one of enclosure and finality into one of openness, contemplation and uplift.
