Vote62 is a joint effort among Thai civil societies and activists advocating for democracy and human rights to recruit election observation volunteer during the 2023 Thai general election. The goal is to enlist all the 100,000 polling stations across Thailand on 14 May 2023.
Founded during the 2019 election, vote62.com is a crowdsourcing website designed to report election result by the people. In the previous election, the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) did not disclose the result of each polling station which led to suspicion among the public. Vote62 asks Thai voters of any background and demography to go to the polling station after the poll closed at 5 PM, observe the counting process, and take the picture of the result back to our website, so if there is irregularity in the result from the ECT there are data to validate.
The design thus has to be politically neutral and easy for any like-minded to apply for their own campaign. The green color is approachable, accessible, and eye-catching. The logo is a pair of eyes which can be drawn without effort and are further applied in the three campaign mascots that represent what the people can do to observe the election; namely, observing in front of the polling station, challenging the mistake made by the officials, and reporting the result back to the website. All materials are available online for the public and volunteer to use for campaigning.
On 14 May 2023, Voters who voted during the day returned to monitor their votes after polling stations close. Vote62.com received at least 450,000 pictures from more than 30,000 polling stations. More than 12 million votes were reported on the website. As many as 285 cases of incorrect score counting were reported, and hundreds were resolved.
