We were inspired by this and came up with the idea of “destruction and reuse” and incorporated it into the design.
"Not reuse, but restoration: Giving abalone ponds a new direction."
Discarded rocks, bricks, tiles, and concrete that would otherwise harm coral reefs were collected and kiln-fired to create a triangular coral seeding base. Concepts and ideas related to this coral restoration project, as well as local environmental issues were explored further in an accompanying publication.
The nine florescent colors found naturally in coral, UV printing, along with paper cutting designs and other illustrations were used to effectively transmit important coral restoration knowledge from various angles to assist readers in better understanding a species that needs our care and attention.
Jury's Evaluation
By uncovering new ecological potential within abandoned aquaculture structures, this concept explores a thoughtful approach to coral restoration. Its collaboration with academic partners and early feasibility testing demonstrate careful groundwork, suggesting meaningful possibilities for coastal ecological conservation in Taiwan.
