“Lighthome” focuses on the idea of home, chronicling the stories of 10 teams of lighthouse keepers and showing that, despite being in the current of time, everyone has to face the job in front and family behind. Every lighthouse keeper has endless stories, and this design project adopts a warm perspective to capture precious historical memories for lighthouse keepers through audiovisual recordings, texts, pictures, and VR 360-degree panoramic documentary film, allowing “Lighthome” to illuminate the farthest places with the brightest light.
The design project includes overall visual integration, book design, and physical exhibition. In terms of visual design, standard texts embody the intention of facing the light, and Ming and Roman types are used to create subsiding and dazzling sensations for English and Chinese texts, so that the texts seem to have strong light coming from behind. Visually, two circles representing daylight and night light symbolize lighthouse keepers’ tireless safeguarding of the lighthouse; with processed transparent foil and embossing, the book is giving a minimalist and clean binding style. The pages inside feature illustrations and various charts, as well as articles written by experts of different domains invited by the editors and compilation of lighthouse related knowledge, giving this book on lighthouse keepers more sophistication and a sense of life.
