The project is the first store of a boutique coffee chain brands in Fuzhou. The architectural style of the commercial area presents the distinctive features of the city's historic architecture, blending tradition with foreign influences. The primary objective of the space design is to seamlessly integrate this standalone store into the surrounding environment. This is achieved through the strategic use of architectural structure and material textures, capturing the essence of the local cultural ambiance, and creating a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere that encourages communication and interaction among customers.
The street-facing facade is designed to be fully open, enabling natural and direct interaction with the external environment. The original building's high slope roof structure and sections of exposed cement walls have been preserved in their raw form, cultivating a simple and serene spatial ambiance with an oriental touch. To adorn the main wall spanning from the first to the third floor, the designer developed and customized a beige tile. This exquisite tile features delicate curved surfaces, reminiscent of the iconic building materials of the past. When arranged in a large area, these tiles create a distinctive pattern and texture, adding a unique touch to the space. Each handmade tile is one-of-a-kind, introducing an sense of unpredictability that distinguishes them from mass-produced industrial products. This imparts a sense of individuality to the modern urban setting, offering an experience of refreshing and detachment.
