In the world, 90% of children's toys are made of plastic. 80% of these toys eventually ending up in landfills, incinerators, or the ocean. Only 20% of the toys are recycled. Among the toys recycled by toy libraries, even after deducting the quantity repaired and organized by toy doctors, there remains a significant portion (20%) of highly damaged toys that cannot be restored for normal use.
Our aim is to transform these irreparable plastic toys into new products to prevent the well-sorted plastic from becoming general waste and being incinerated or buried due to the incomplete nature of the existing plastic recycling system and low profitability.
In this collaboration with the ‘Taiwan Toy Library Association’, which devoted to constructing a toy recycling system in Taiwan. The design concept is based on the coral and the ocean protection. Initially, we seek to raise awareness among the public about the critical role that coral plays in ecosystems. We highlight the environmental impact of coral bleaching and the importance of energy conservation, carbon reduction, and sustainable development. We encourage individuals to support the "Coral Chair" and prioritize coral conservation. And integrating environmental consciousness such as carbon reduction and sustainability into children's growth and everyday life.
The Coral Chair features a dual-sided design with different heights. One side has shorter legs for children's use, while the other side has taller legs for adults. With a modular extension design, the chairs can be stacked to create large shared seating areas.
