We aimed to create an environment where customers can experience the craftsmanship and brand philosophy of Tojiro while having access to an exceptional lineup of knives in the industry. The store is divided into the Maintenance Room and the Knife Gallery. In the Maintenance Room, we have arranged a complete set of maintenance equipment used in Tojiro's main factory, providing a space for knife repairs and showcasing the essence of craftsmanship. Whereas the Knife Gallery adopts a design that maximises the use of wall space, presenting neatly displayed and appealing knives.
The store, constructed with reinforced concrete and without windows, required materials that could withstand Japan's hot and humid climate. Therefore, the optimal choice was to use wood wool boards, which possess insulation, moisture control, and soundproofing capabilities. The central area features an open grid structure, enhancing the feeling of spaciousness. By making the walls as thin as possible and ensuring strength with iron grids, we secured exhibition space. The iron grids not only create an illusion of spaciousness but also conveys the durability and quality associated with Tojiro's products. Corrugated panels are applied to the walls of the Maintenance Room, serving as water receivers during sharpening processes.
By utilising materials such as iron grids, wood wool boards, and corrugated panels commonly used in Tojiro's factory, we achieved a cohesive atmosphere. Customers can fully immerse themselves in the world of Tojiro's craftsmanship through knife exhibitions and repairs. Furthermore, the store design incorporates the philosophical values of the brand, aiming to provide a space where visitors from around the world can experience the allure of Japanese craftsmanship.
