The event, “Hear Here”, has been held for five years, and the 2022 festival was held at the North Gate Square of Hengchun Historical City for five days. The event features a variety of innovative interpretations of folk music, including a folk music fashion show, a folk poetry theater, a new style of old tunes, a folk music competition, a marketplace, and tours of the historic city, attracting tens of thousands of people. The show invited Daniel Wong, an international fashion designer, to create a show on the historical city inspired by the folk music, local culture, and environmental culture of Hengchun. The show invited 30 people to wear fashion. The show combined local elements such as sisal agave and onion with the beauty of the ocean, wind, and island. The music of the fashion show was reinterpreted by the band "A Root", bringing the audience traditional and fashionable Hengchun folk music.
Most of the Hengchun folk songs describe the impoverished life and sadness of the past. Blue tunes are not well accepted by young people. The program "New style of Old Tunes" invites musicians from Taiwan and abroad to reinterpret Hengchun folk songs, adding pop, jazz, rock, and electronic styles. The performance team's re-arrangement and creation incorporated local elements into the new songs to present new traditional folk music, aiming to attract more young people to know this traditional Hengchun culture. The costumes were designed to extract the essence of local culture. The designer transformed the local elements of Hengchun into prints and projected them on the old city wall, giving the event a diverse sound and visual effect, allowing more people to explore the history of Hengchun and discover the beauty of the local area.
