Create a multi-functional space suitable for both movement and stillness
This case is located in the activity center of Hu-Dong Elementary School in Changhua County. It is a rhythm classroom next to the "Assembly Hall". The school hopes that this classroom will be used as a dance practice room for dance clubs, a presentation space for art classes, a community rhythm classroom, and a small gathering place...etc. Therefore, how to establish a space system so that the subject matter of renovation can become a multi-functional field that is "suitable for both movement and stillness" is the biggest proposition of this design!
Disturb Program through Spatial Configuration
01. Open
We try to open up the "closedness" and "singleness" of functions of the standard teaching space. The existing low walls are removed and replaced with glass doors that can be opened, making the rhythm classroom and assembly hall a fluid field that can operate independently or be connected to each other, allowing the activities of the two spaces to penetrate and continue each other.
02. Light Roof
The light shed ceiling system cuts in from four aspects including "linear light strips, point lighting, mesh panels, display and projection systems" to form a new horizontal strip order), defining the areas of activities such as dancing, exhibitions, speeches, etc. The order of the light shed becomes the reference to define the behavior of activities below, and induces the operation mode of different space usage.
03. Void
With the concept of "Least Architevture, Most Activities!", the storage function is integrated around to clear an "empty" field, so that the classroom can not Constrained by a single function, it is an active field that can activate multiple events!
