In a densely populated urban area, with limited activity space and a large number of students, many children rushed into the health center within the 10 minutes break for assistance, and the nurses are often overwhelmed. The space was dark and the air was stiff, lacked of warmth, and sufficient privacy. It is impossible to soothe the nervous emotions of injured children. Therefore, we hope that by transforming the space, we can incorporate design thinking and rebuild a health center that has high aesthetic value, treats patient efficiently, while provides peaceful feeling that reduce the anxiety.

The health center is not only a nursing space, but also a place to heal and ease emotions. The large column on the site originally blocked the sight and the circulation, the indoor light is relatively dim, and the storage function is messy. After the renovation, the nurses and volunteers can move quickly to assist students. The newly integrated circulation surrounds the existing columns and softens the edges of the space. The combination of the counter and the nursing room releases more free space to accommodate the three different check-ups, include: daily, semester and annual body exams. The individual barrier-free nursing bed provides more privacy, creating a safe and secure atmosphere.

Biophilic Design (pro-nature design) was incorporated in the renovation project. After the walls were removed, natural light and air could flow into the space. Through the harmony between man and nature, we believe the people inside will be more healthy and feel happy. The color pallet is a healing sky blue color with light wood grain. When the children are injured or feeling unwell, the warm atmosphere can also help reduce fear and anxiety.
