The largest forest park lies in the small city of Chiayi. The design concept of the exhibition comes from Gina Hsu, the curator of Chiayi Pavilion. The design intent aims to connect the urban axis, the Tropic of Cancer, sunlight, and arboretum of Chiayi. Chiayi Pavilion is a city on its own; an inserted glass box by the sea, a spatial dialogue with the main city.
The interior exhibition walls can be discovered from outside. The axis of Chiayi (the train station, fountain circle, and park) is placed inside. About 6000 wooden poles are suspended from the ceiling. Wood of different undulations act as a guide and define the elements of the space, interweaving with natural and artificial light. It recreates a forest-like spirit where you can take a moment of your time to admire the details. The exterior façade of the space faces the bright city. It displays important urban and cultural elements; the overall design utilizes modular materials and dimensions that can be adapted and assembled easily.
